Post-Doctoral Scientist
POSITION: The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of British Columbia, in partnership with the BCCDC Public Health Microbiology and Reference Laboratory, is seeking a post-doctoral scientist with experience in microbial genomics or bioinformatics. The successful applicant will perform metagenomics on environmental water samples in order to identify novel indicators for water quality and microbial source tracking. These genetic targets will be validated and developed into commercializable molecular assays in the latter half of the project. The successful applicant will generate and analyze metagenomic data from environmental water samples in order to identify novel indicators for water quality and microbial source tracking. The Biochemical Genetics laboratory (BGL), within the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, is seeking a Ph.D. or Post Doctoral fellow for a 3 year training program in Biochemical Genetics (see www.ccmg-ccgm.org/training.html for details). This program is designed to develop the core skills required to lead a clinical biochemical genetics diagnostic laboratory.
The BGL is the Provincial reference laboratory for the investigation, diagnosis and monitoring of children and adults with Inborn errors of Metabolism. This is a comprehensive BGL that offers a wide range of screening and diagnostic tests on a variety of platforms (LC-MS/MS, GCMS, UPLC, ion exchange chromatography, enzymology, isoelectric focusing etc).
