Certificate in Infection Prevention and Control

What is the Certificate in Infection Prevention and Control?

The Certificate in Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) is a continuing education certificate designed to meet the basic educational needs of front line health care professionals in or considering a career in the field of infection prevention and control.

It is designed for individuals who have experience in the health care field, especially the area of infection control.  It is practically oriented and relies heavily on the individual having knowledge of how a hospital operates.

The Certificate consists of  four courses: three on-line courses using a problem-based, interactive format relevant to the practice of infection prevention and control, and one clerkship in clinical infection control.  The on-line, three-credit university recognized courses may be taken as stand-alone courses,  used towards the UBC Infection Prevention and Control Certificate, or towards a Bachelor or Masters in Science, Nursing or Epidemiology with the permission of the individual's appropriate university departments.  The clerkship course may only be completed as part of the Certificate.
