What are the entrance requirements?

There are two ways to enter the BMLSc Program:  through minimum 2nd year Sciences or with the RT (general) diploma of the CSMLS.

Science Students must complete ALL of the following courses by April of the year you are applying:

First year:
Chemistry (UBC Chemistry 121 and 123 or 111 and 113)
Biology (UBC Biology 112, 121 and 140)
English - 6 credits first year level
Mathematics - 6 credits first year level
Physics - 6 credits first year level (from Phys 100, 101, 102)

plus the following Second-year level courses:

Cell Biology (UBC Biology 200)
Biochemistry (UBC Biology 201)
Physical Chemistry (UBC Chemistry 205 or 201)
Analytical Chemistry (UBC Chemistry 211) (Chemistry 202 is not a replacement for Chem 211)
Organic Chemistry (UBC Chemistry  233 & 235; or 203 & 204; or Chem 203, 213 & 245))
Medical Microbiology & Immunology (UBC Microbiology 202)
Arts elective - 6 credits - any year level

Meeting the admission criteria does not imply or guarantee admission. 

Registered Technologists must complete all of the following prior to entry:

  1. RT (general) diploma of the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Technologists (CSMLS) (or equivalent international qualification).
  2. Second-year level Organic Chemistry (UBC Chem 233/235 or Chem 203/204).
    Physical Chemistry and Analytical Chemistry (UBC Chem 205 {or 201} and 211).

International Students
An international student is someone who has obtained post-secondary education outside of North America and does not hold Canadian citizenship or landed immigrant status.
